The OG Dutch farmers' shoe has had a serious fashion upgrade 👡

Summer sandals come in many shapes and sizes, from chunky-soled walking sandals that are as practical as they are pretty, to wedges that promise to be kinder to your feet than a stiletto heel. But our favourite summer shoe trend of the moment has to be clogs.

Sitting somewhere between the feminine delicacy of a block-heeled strappy design and the cool fashion girl status of the quilted sandal (yes, we're talking about the high street dupes of *those* Chanel dad sandals), the OG shoe of 19th-century Dutch farmers has had a serious fashion upgrade this season. But forget rubber Crocs... We're talking about the most classic clog designs, with their solid wooden soles, leather uppers, and stud or buckle detailing.

Thanks in large part to the '70s fashion trend revival that is showing no signs of slowing, we're welcoming clogs back into the modern day mainstream alongside flared jeans and crochet. And while that 'fit will easily nail duty off-duty chic, we'll also be styling ours with floaty summer dresses to toughen up the lewk.

The best part? Clogs are a trans-seasonal shoe hero, working just as well in the autumn and winter as they do for the warmer months of the year – especially if you opt for a closed-toe style. Ahhhhh, we can hear it already; clogs everywhere clip-clopping their way well into September. Because that's the other great thing about clogs: they're designed to be seen *and* heard. The unmistakable sound they generate with every step practically invites people to stop and stare.

With Kendall Jenner, Sienna Miller, and Sarah Jessica Parker all known clog-wearers, trust us when we say clogs have secured their title as one of this season's top shoe styles to shop. So what are you waiting for? Keep scrolling to shop our edit of the high street's best in every colour and for every budget.

There's a lot to love about these Isabel Marant clogs. 1. The fact they're Isabel Marant. 2. That sculptural, conical heel. 3. The rich brick colourway. Consider us sold.

These black clogs with silver hardware are timeless and guaranteed to go with everything. We almost did a double take when we saw they were down to £65 in the Russell & Bromley sale. Race ya to the checkout!

Perfect for summer, we love the white hue and added gold embellishment of these clog sandals. We'll be styling them with waistcoat and shorts co-ords now, then cuffed denim when the mercury drops.

We love Reformation's shoe collection as much as we love their dresses, TBH. This animal print iteration has gone straight to the top of our wishlist– the zebra calfhair is just *so* cool.

Penelope Chilvers is known for its authentic Spanish riding boots. These leather clogs are also made in Spain, specifically Cordoba, and utilise the classical art of embossing leather by carving, pushing, and shaping it – which has been used in the region since the 10th century.

The only downside to a clog is the rigidity of the wooden sole. But Scholl's designs are known for their molded footbeds that make them much more comfortable than you'd imagine. We love the metallic leather versions from the brand's latest collaboration with ISSIMO.

Just looking at these chic black sandals makes us want to put them on and clomp around. Nice and chunky, clogs aren't about being delicate. We'd wear them with a white summer dress for added drama.

FitFlops always nail the clogs silhouette. This season, the brand has taken an elevated approach with a design crafted from a single piece of leather for a clean architectural upper, off-set with a buckled strap. As with all FitFlop shoes, the midsoles are pressure-diffusing, super-cushioning Microwobbleboard™ for ultimate comfort.

For a slightly different take on the trend, we love these leather basket weave clogs with a square toe. The sage green shade is pretty dreamy IMO, too.

These olive green clogs are made from suede, rather than leather, and feature a central top seam and eye-catching stud details all around the sole.

Denim blue clogs are the shoe you didn't know you needed. Simply add your favourite jorts and a white t-shirt for effortless summer style.

These clogs are simultaneously laid back and polished. It all comes down to what you wear them with: frayed hem denim for the former, and a summer dress to achieve the latter. That's what we call a hard-working shoe.

There's something effortlessly stylish about these khaki green and pale wooden clog sandals. With added underfoot padding, we'll be teaming them with jeans, dresses, midi skirts... the list goes on.

With a higher heel than most, these clogs will give a few extra centimeters while the lug sole taps into another of this season's big shoe trends. And did we mention the chic AF neutral hue?

Filippa K has partnered with Swedish Hasbeens on these limited edition unisex clogs that feature some pretty cool design features (we think). We're talking the snake print, the fact the sole has been cut from a single piece of lime tree, plus the buckle strap can be worn over the top of the foot or around the back of your heel.

For those wanting a secure, solid style, look no further than this Phase Eight design. Made from 100% leather and in a rich black colourway, the wide strap will keep these clogs firmly on your feet.

Okay okay, we know we said we were strictly speaking about wooden clogs but this Birkenstock design is inspired by the classic clog. Just with a comfy moulded footbed providing a great way to get a similar look for those who struggle to walk on a chunky wooden platform.

Clogs don't need to cost a fortune, and these classic New Look brown sandals let you nail the trend – and for less than £30. Win-win.

Cheating again, but surely we had to for Gucci?! Especially as we've spotted these lug sole rubber clogs with perforated Gucci logo motif on all our favourite Instagram fashion girlies. We're thinking of a pay day treat for ourselves.
